About Virginia Troops to Teachers

Troops to Teachers (TTT) was established in 1994 as a Department of Defense (DOD)program. It is funded by the US Department of Education (USDOE)and managed by the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Support (DANTES) in Pensacola, Florida. The Virginia office operates out of Room 113 in the Education Building on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Its primary objective is to recruit quality teachers for schools that serve high needs schools throughout schools in the state. TTT helps relieves teacher shortages in critical needs content areas. Spouses to Teachers (STT) is a pilot project designed to assist military spouses by reimbursement of expenses incurred while taking professional assessments required for teacher licensure programs. TTT/STT staff are available to advise and counsel prospective teachers regarding financial aid, academic course selections, and potential hiring opportunities.
